Loos Tension Gauges are used to measure the tension in rod
or wire. Being able to do this means that the rigging on a
sailing boat can be set to prescribed tensions that may be
available. Many classes of boats have information
available that give set tensions of the stays of that
particular class in certain conditions.
These measurements are usually taken with a “Loos Gauge”.
With the aid of a “Loos Gauge” you can measure the
tensions of your own rig set up and record them so that you
can easily set up the rig to those tensions again when the
same conditions exist.
There are three Loos Gauges to suit wire rigging:
PT-1* Cable sizes: 3/32", 1/8", and 5/32"
PT-2* Cable sizes: 3/16", 7/32", and 1/4"
PT-3* Cable sizes:1/4”, 9/32", 5/16", and 3/8"
PT-1 Metric* Cable sizes: 2.5mm, 3mm, and 4mm
PT-2 Metric* Cable sizes: 5mm, 6mm, and 7mm
PT-3 Metric* Cable sizes: 7mm, 8mm, 9mm and10mm
There are two sizes available to suit rod rigging:
RT-10 Rod sizes: -4 to -12
RT-11 Rod sizes: -12 to -22
